I don't like to brag

No, really, I don't. (Shut up.) But I must trumpet the fact that Boswell the Goose has mentioned me on his blog.

Never mind that Boswell has mistaken me for his goosey sister, Woglinde, and he misspelled my name (although I confess I'm impressed he types as well as he does with those big webby toes). And never mind that I may have offended him with my suggestion that his sister might be hurt and lonely if Boswell gets his wish and moves into the Big House with his featherless human and certain furry house pets. Nope, all of that aside, I am pretty excited to be mentioned on his blog. Of course, I'd rather that he mentioned how honkin' fabulous I am instead of accusing me of undermining him while impersonating his sibling, but maybe if he gets to know me better, he'll realize I was just looking out for him and his sister.

Simon's Cat in "TV Dinner".

Link blatantly ripped off from Pulp Friction.

Making friends and breaking bread

Have I mentioned that this super-cool blogger is in town for a few weeks? We met last week and we're getting together again tonight for dinner, hopefully either here or here, or maybe here.

I <3 Boswell

Did you read the cool story about Boswell the Goose in Sunday's Globe Mag? Or watch the video on necn.com, showing Boswell going to the hospital for treatment or having his human read to him from his favorite book, The Iliad? Maybe you heard NPR's interview yesterday with the author of the Globe story instead, in which case you already know that Boswell has started blogging at The Daily Honk.

Ahead of my time

A couple of years ago I posted about my issues regarding a colleague's breast milk being stored in our tiny office mini-fridge without benefit of opaque containers of some sort. It made me uncomfortable, despite having no problem when women in a non-work environment actually breast-feed or, for that matter, pump right in front of me. I ultimately told my cow-orker, gently, that it made me uncomfortable and she agreed to store the expressed milk differently. We all made it through relatively unscathed, although she did seem kind of surprised when I initially brought it up.

Today, our local etiquette columnist, Miss Conduct, provides what as far as I am concerned is the definitive word on this topic. Thank you, Robin Abrahams, and thank you to the reader who submitted the question.

Now I trust we have finally pumped this subject for all it's worth.

Trucks are funny

I saw a truck on the way to work yesterday with a logo proclaiming "1756 Mayonnaise." It appeared to be a brand name, and the number 1756 was written in a font that made it look like a year, as in maybe the year the company was founded? At the time, though, all I could think was, "Why would anyone want to buy some mayo left over from 1756?" (Okay, my link search reveals that mayo was actually invented in 1756. Which sorta clears things up, and also sorta makes my point.)

Then this morning I was out for a walk when a Schwing construction truck, with a cherry-picker/crane thingy on it, drove by. Come on, people, you're just begging for it. I'm sure that even the guys who work for the company can't restrain themselves when the crane thingy is, um, extended. (That last one may not be entirely safe for work. Turn your volume down, at least.) The first time I ever saw a Schwing truck (a cement mixer) was at the Baltimore airport when I flew in to meet a friend a few years ago. At the time, I had never heard of the company and couldn't keep from a little Beavis-type guffawing -- and that one didn't even have an erection crane.

Okay, that's all I've got today. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
